Traffic - Macht des Kartells (2000)

Englisch Traffic is one of the best drug films ever. It has fantastic technical execution, especially the handheld camera and filters, and fantastic editing, all of this gives it a very impressive authenticity and at the same time, it literally breathes artistry. The screenplay is perfect, as well as the direction and the cast.

Pearl Harbor (2001)

Englisch It may be pathetic, but visually, aesthetically, and musically, it is such a lavish affair that it completely disarmed me. A classic love story set in a big catastrophe – a cliché at first glance. It really is like that, but you can't help but like it. It doesn't pretend to be anything else.

A.I. - Künstliche Intelligenz (2001)

Englisch A captivating and visionary sci-fi film that is unlike anything ever made before. It's not worth arguing about whether Kubrick would have done it better or worse. Spielberg made the film the way he wanted and did not embarrass his colleague. A technically flawless film with beautifully ethereal music and excellently chosen actors. A great experience and once again, one of the masterpieces of world cinema that will most likely never be fully appreciated.

Armageddon - Das jüngste Gericht (1998)

Englisch Camera orgies reaching indescribable dimensions, one of the best soundtracks ever created for a film, captivating action, beautiful Bruckheimer-like filters, sharply contoured image composition and perhaps the most exquisite coloring I have ever seen, excellent dynamic direction, romantic scenes alternating with the most action-packed ones, with at least every other shot carrying an emotional charge that doesn’t leave a moment to catch your breath, great voiceovers, and Bay’s stylish and indispensable low-angle. Bruce Willis delivers a magnificent and restrained performance, brilliantly complemented by the rest of the cast, and the screenwriter deserves praise for the wonderfully structured and diverse characters. For nitpicky film student it will be rubbish, for the ordinary viewer, divine entertainment and literally burning filmmaking, showing what can be done nowadays. As Bay himself once said, “I didn't come to cure cancer, but to entertain people.” It is holy truth.

Minority Report (2002)

Englisch A dark and visually stunning gem that deserves to be among the best films of 2002. The master shows himself in full form, confirming his reputation as one of the greatest directors of all time. Minority Report is a smart film, relying mainly on an excellent screenplay, which, along with the incredibly detailed production design and great performance by Tom Cruise, makes you forget about occasional slightly sentimental moments that are a regular occurrence for Spielberg. The visual effects are breathtaking, as is Samantha Morton in the role of the precog. The scenes with her are amazing and the veteran Max von Sydow certainly doesn't need to be ashamed of his performance either. Add to that a unique visual style, beautifully tinted camera filters, and thrilling action. Spielberg is still at the top.
