The Crown - Stolz und Freude (2016) (Folge)
A lavish visit to the Commonwealth and excellently filmed and acted feuds within the royal family, specifically the two powerful sisters – each so exceptional and yet completely different. The acting is precise, the direction tightly gripped.
For All Mankind - New Eden (2022) (Folge)
Good emotions, plus the gay issues have meaning and depth. Finally, even the character of Stevens makes sense. Not much space, but the politics this time are satisfying and complex.
For All Mankind - Sieben Minuten des Schreckens (2022) (Folge)
It's as if the creators don't know what to do with some of the characters and are manufacturing a bit of over-the-top excitement around them, which seems to lead to big twists later on. The character of Stevens, in particular, is strange to say the least. I would have expected more drama from the Mars landing, a more grandiose expedition, but that's just a detail. It still maintains that realistic-exotic vibe of something that awaits us in reality in a few years, and it's attractive to watch at least as a mock film experiment.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)
A more sweeping and darker sequel. It was similar with Captain America: Winter Soldier, but the more expansive story and the varied motivations of the main characters worked better there, it was tighter and more dynamic as a whole. The second Black Panther has a massive runtime. It wants to say a lot, give lots of emotions and show different worlds and the characters that inhabit them. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. Most of the time it felt like a mix of Avatar, Aquaman and any random adventure movie set in Africa. It is bearable, but not worth a second visit to the cinema.
The Crown - Wissen ist Macht (2016) (Folge)
The behind-the-scenes struggles, the traditional elements of the British monarchy, and to top it all off, the character of the Queen, whose development is portrayed in a great way. Classy, decadent, but at the same time not losing the natural point of view of a person who is becoming aware of their strengths and weaknesses. The final crescendo is just the icing on the cake.
The Crown - Dynamit (2016) (Folge)
A sincere relationship in an insincere situation. And when good old journalists are added to the mix, the drama is taken care of. A very cleverly filmed episode about a couple who were not allowed to live together for political reasons.
For All Mankind - Happy Valley (2022) (Folge)
It may look like 2001: A Space Odyssey in places, but it's got great momentum and healthy competitiveness, and the final minutes in space are worth it. It was clear that with three different expeditions to Mars, the cards would have to be shuffled.
For All Mankind - Alles auf Sieg (2022) (Folge)
A pointless episode about recruitment and running from point A to B and back. And when something finally starts to work well (the subtle romantic line with Margo), the ending reliably cripples it. The last peripeteia before the journey, so hopefully from now on it will be a return to the roots: space.
For All Mankind - Rollenwechsel (2022) (Folge)
The second episode has great pace and momentum. Things are starting to happen at NASA and big and unexpected changes are taking place. I also liked the alternative to visionary Elon Musk. He may be of dark-skinned, but that doesn't matter. The content reflects the contemporary situation quite well.
For All Mankind - Polaris (2022) (Folge)
Space pop that's miles away from the groundbreaking and scientifically relatively polished first series, which stays fairly grounded and within the believable concept of an alternate past. Compared to this, the first episode of the third season feels like a sci-fi from 2050.
