Jie jiu wu xian sheng (2015)

Englisch A Chinese acting star was kidnapped. He wasn't abducted because they liked him, but because they wanted some money. Furthermore, they don't treat him very kindly because of it, and Andy Lau's performance makes this film very believable, giving you exactly what you want in that regard. It's gritty, but it's not particularly stunning.

Reise nach Indien (1984)

Englisch I didn't expect another big film from David Lean to captivate me, but it's surprising in that it's only a big film in certain parts; otherwise, it's a beautiful demonstration of how the discord between nations can be portrayed through two people who didn't even want to be part of the discord, but circumstances led them there anyway. David Lean brilliantly shows how dangerous man can be to man.

American Muscle (2014)

Englisch What do you expect from an action movie? Probably that it will be action-packed. The movie "American Muscle" meets this expectation, although whether you will like the main character is another matter. There is some sex, nudity, a fair amount of roughness, and a relatively simple story. Yeah, I'm quite satisfied with this.

New York Christmas - Weihnachtswunder gibt es doch! (2015)

Englisch You can tell it has the right Christmas atmosphere, which really only hits you during that time of year. And it also has Patrick Stewart, which is really quite inconsequential because he doesn't add anything extra to the film. The power goes out, a few people get stuck somewhere, and they realize how wonderful it is to be human and have each other. Nothing groundbreaking, but some of the relationships are fine.

Marsland - Kein Ort zum Überleben (2015)

Englisch It's kind of obvious at first glance that this isn't going to be great. Honestly, the script is bad even for current TV production standards, but on the other hand, I didn't find the special effects as repulsive as I would have thought. Otherwise, though, it's a lot of shots of people talking or making weird faces. This is the film's main weapon that traditionally brings it down.

Der Kronprinz (2015) (Fernsehfilm)

Englisch I'm not a big fan of new Czech fairy tales, but this one was entertaining, and my girlfriend and I had a good laugh while watching it. The actors obviously enjoyed it, and Ladislav Mrkvička appeared in a great role. The story was also nice; it surprised me that from this unoriginal premise, they managed to squeeze out a good plot that was enjoyable.

Es war einmal ein König (1954)

Englisch One of the loveliest fairy tales I know, mainly thanks to Werich, who is simply incredible and essentially carries the film on his own. But only at first glance. Other great characters also hold the film together. The characters are great and wonderfully portrayed, and on top of that, there's a story that's beautifully fairy-tale-like and charmingly naive in its culinary aspect.

Wettstreit im Schloss (1993)

Englisch A great fairy tale with an excellent script where something is always happening. It can end badly right up to the end, and all the actors keep the tale beautifully afloat. Jiřina Bohdalová is simply unique in this respect and the role suited her perfectly. She rules the fairy tale, but you still don't want Envy to win. And she's doesn’t...

Teuflisches Glück (1) (1999)

Englisch A lot of the charm of this fairy tale for me is because part of it was filmed in Český Krumlov, my beautiful hometown. And, of course, many other beautiful places. The story is also quite decent, but somehow, it's not the same anymore, and it all feels a bit worn out. I'd rather watch The Watermill Princess.

Die Prinzessin und der fliegende Schuster (1987)

Englisch This fairy tale always scared the hell out of me. Růžičková and Blanarovičová are so awful here that I just closed my eyes like a little kid because I couldn't stand to see it. Nowadays I can watch it and I still enjoy the story a lot. Zdeněk Troška had a gift for nice stories, but gradually it became rather routine.
