Gulistan Mirzaei

Biografie

Gulistan Mirzaei spent much of his life as a refugee in Iran. When the Taliban fell in 2001, he returned to Kabul to work as an assistant to the editor-in-chief at the country’s only independent newspaper, Kabul Weekly. He was mentored by award-winning Afghan director Siddiq Barmak (Osama, 2003) and he co-directed three documentaries for Al Jazeera. His first feature documentary, Laila at the Bridge, won the F:ACT Award at CPH:DOX in 2018 and was nominated for a Tim Hetherington Award at Sheffield.
