Eline Gehring began her career as a camerawoman and German news editor in Paris, Prague, Kyiv and Berlin. She worked for the foreign broadcaster Deutsche Welle in Cairo. Between 2009 and 2010, Gehring made short films, documentaries and social advertisements for non-governmental organizations in South Africa. Back in Germany, Gehring directed more short films such as Holly (2016). At the same time, she studied Film Directing at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin (DFFB). Nico is her first feature film, for which the leading actress, Sara Fazilat, won the Best Young Actress Award twice.
