Biografie

Lydie Wisshaupt-Claudel has lived in Brussels since 2001. She studied editing at the Higher National Institute of Performing Arts (INSAS). After graduating in 2006, she made her directorial debut with There's still light (Il y a encore de la lumière), a travel newspaper in Iceland on how to deal with loneliness. Based on a long road trip to the American West, Sideroads (2012) emerged, her first documentary feature film: together with her partner, she met the Americans oscillating between faith and disillusionment towards American Dream. During the trip, she met the military town of Twentynine Palms, where she returned to direct Killing Time - entre deux fronts, her third documentary, which has won multiple awards and international recognition at festivals in 2015. Her new documentary feature film, Leading Lights (Éclaireuses), invites us to question our educational system and bias, through the observation of the daily work and the search for two teachers, working with children without a school past, for most of them in exile.
She still works alternately as a film director and editor, as she is convinced that both activities are complementary and enrich each other.
