Shirikiana Aina obtained her BA in Film from Howard University and earned an MA in African Film Studies from UCLA in 1982. That year she established Mypheduh Films, together with her husband, award-winning independent filmmaker Haile Gerima. This is a distribution company for independent, African and African American films. Aina is also a co-founder of Negod Gwad Productions, a nonprofit film company providing support to indie filmmakers. Aina is an independent documentary filmmaker and producer, whose work focuses on the African diaspora. She has also taught courses in scriptwriting and film production at Howard University.
