Sergio de la Torre studied photography at the California College for the Arts in San Francisco, California, and earned a Master’s degree in visual arts at the University of California, San Diego. He has participated in different museums and galleries, art biennales and film festivals around the world. His project Maquilápolis, a documentary that tells the story of two maquiladora workers in Tijuana, premiered in Rotterdam. It has received invitations to be shown at various festivals, including the Tribeca Film Festival of New York, Hot Docs in Toronto, Canada, and the FICG.
