Biografie

In 1983 he graduated from the School of Art and in 1992 from the Higher Institute of Art and Design. From 1985 to 1990 he worked as an animator. In 1988, he made his first short film, The round-about. In 1994, he graduated from the Moscow Courses for Writers and Directors with Fjodor Khitruk. His films won over two hundred awards at different festivals, such as the Grand-prix Annecy 1995 and Annecy 2016, the Grand-prix Annecy 1997, a special jury, audience award, and the funniest film at Annecy 1999, the Golden Spike in Valladolid, the Animated Eye Award in Aspen 2000, 2004 and 2008; Best Animation in Tampere, St.-Petersburg, Lisbon, Krakow and Potsdam; audience award, press award and Fnac award at Clermont-Ferrand 2000, Grand Prix in Rome, New York, Taipei and Moscow among many others. He has two Oscar nominations for Lavatory-Lovestory (2009) and We Can’t Live Without Cosmos (2016). He is a member of the French Academy of Cinema and the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences.
