Biografie

More than a man with creative ideas, Jamal has honed his technical skills on first-rate and cutting-edge productions including directing, acting and other production credits on the acclaimed hit, Chappelle's Show. Some of his other television credits include Third Watch, Make My Day and Comedy Central Roasts! Denis Leary. He has worked on big budget and award-winning films, such as, Spider-Man, A Beautiful Mind, The Guys and Kate & Leopold. He has also directed numerous short films and music videos.

Classically trained, Jamal is a founding actor of the African-American Shakespeare Company as well as The National Black Actors' Group. He has also performed with New York's famed LaMama Experimental Theater Company as well as in both national and regional productions receiving critical praise for his performances in The Precious Damsels, Taming of the Shrew, and Oedipus. However, performing was not enough to satisfy Mr. Jamal and he went on to direct and re-work classics like Romeo and Juliet, Medea, King Lear and Oedipus.

Jamal also has a love of contemporary theater and brought his skills to the stage adaptations of Spike Lee's film School Daze and writer Essex Hemphill's works in Up Jumped Springtime.

Jamal was in pre-production for his second film, Dirty Laundry. He lives in Brooklyn, New York where he founded the Urban Arts Collective, which produces films from young, urban filmmakers. He supports other young LGBT filmmakers as a co-producer of the Atlanta Black GBLTQ Film Festival. He devotes his charitable efforts to Sickle Cell Awareness, HIV/AIDS education and youth literacy organizations and programs.
