Mitra Sen was born in London, England and is a graduate of York University's film program in Toronto. She focuses on creating films that share stories of peace and unity and inspire young people to become social justice leaders. Her award-winning films, Just a Little Red Dot (MVFF 1997) and The Peace Tree, have been invited to numerous film festivals including Tribeca and Ebertfest. The Peace Tree (MVFF 2011) triggered the proclamation of Peace Tree Day in Canada and the creation of the Peace Tree International organization, which empowers children to promote peace and diversity. Under the Same Sun is Sen's first film shot in India.
