Biografie

Born in Istanbul in 1959. His short film, Koza (Cocoon), screened in Cannes in 1995. Herecieved many awards with his debut feature Kasaba (Small Town,1997) and his second feature Mayıs Sıkıntısı (Clouds of May, 1999). His third feature, Uzak (Distant, 2002), receivedt he Grand Prix and the Best Actor award at Cannes 2003. His 2006 film, İklimler (Climates), won the FIPRESCI Award in 2006. He also won the Cannes' Best DirectorAward for Üç Maymun (Three Monkeys, 2008). Bir Zamanlar Anadolu'da (Once upon atime in Anatolia) won the Grand Prix in 2011, and Winter Sleep, the 2014 Palme d'Or.
