Biografie

Born in 1940 in Antwerp, Belgium, he was first hired as a director by TV channels BRT and VPRO. He then became stage and opera director as well as teacher at the Dutch Film and Television Academy in Amsterdam. In 1971, with Daughters of Darkness, he re-worked the legend of Countess Báthory in contemporary Flanders and made an erotic fantasy film with hypnotic beauty taken from the Belgium symbolist painters’ aesthetics. Actress Delphine Seyrig also brought a poisonous appeal to her performance as a female vampire.
