The Eastern Asian poeticism may not at first glance seem to fit in The Hire series, but the circling around the pier and the subsequent cat-and-mouse game among the maritime shipping containers accompanied by tranquil strings clearly demonstrate that Ang Lee can extract more from the subject matter than the original script promises. Perhaps the longer sequences outside the car (in proportion to the rest of the film) may be detrimental, but they definitely have something special about them, and the adorable point with the gilded box brought me to my knees.

Great choreography. I don’t think I’ve ever seen (cars) dancing like this before. The young Chinese kid (Buddha, or simply the Chosen) is enchanting; I’ll never forget the expression on his face when he’s fastening his seat belt. At the end I enjoyed the punchline with the precious little box and Ang Lee’s trademark.

Der bisher schwächste The Hire-Film (obwohl er nicht schlecht ist). Lee hat die Geschichte auf seine eigene Art und Weise dargestellt. Die Autoverfolgungsjagd, untermalt mit klassischer Musik, zeigt er als eine große Tanznummer, nicht als eine spektakuläre Actionszene. In dem Film gibt es ein paar Witze, darunter auch eine super Anspielung auf Hulk… Ich kann nicht sagen, dass ich mich gelangweilt habe. The Hire: Chosen hat aber etwas gefehlt.
