In 1975, a family law was passed in Cuba that stipulated for the equal responsibility of husband and wife in housekeeping and in raising their children. La familia registers street discussions caused by this amendment, and examines various ideas about love. It also pays attention to the laws on family life that were effective in the past, and searches for the causes of discrimination of women. An attempt is made to give an idea of future developments in this field, referring to Friedrich Engels's Die Ursprung der Familie. (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
