Director Yasmina Abdellaoui worked at Bucharest train station for four years in the service of Terres des Hommes, an organisation dedicated to children in need. As is the case with most stations in big cities, all sorts of people who live on the fringes of society gather at Bucharest CS. They try to survive by begging, stealing or prostituting themselves. In Gigi & Monica Abdellaoui follows a group of children who have formed a gang, because together they stand a better chance of surviving. The main figures are Gigi and Monica, who are looking for a way out of this misery as a kind of Romeo and Juliet of the streets. Monica is expecting a baby, which makes her dream of a well-regulated life. Gigi & Monica tells the story of children in a dead-end situation who never give up hope for a better future.
