Sarajevki pas

A man, a woman, a dog; the three of them live peacefully in a flat in Sarajevo. However, an emotional event inevitably draws near. Ronny, the dog, is old and has serious walking problems. Therefore, Alma and Ilija decide to have the dog put down. But Ronny is the last living memory of their son Tony, who fell in the battle of Sarajevo on 4 July 1993. Originally, it was his dog and when Ronny will be gone, only the medals, photographs and memories of their son remain. Ronny seems to be aware of his fate, just as he seemed to know Tony’s death was imminent when he refused to say goodbye when his boss had to return to the front. Director Haris Prolic and cameraman Eldar Emric met during the siege of Sarajevo in 1994 and made various reports during the remainder of the war. When peace had been achieved, their ways parted, but in the spring of 2002 they launched a new project. While shooting it, they met Ilija in a bar, who was on his way to have Ronny put down, and Sarajevki pas came into being on the spot. (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
