Geran

An aspiring martial arts flick from Malaysia. It doesn't reach the quality of Indonesia, but from what I had the pleasure to see from Malaysia, Geran is definitely the most interesting. In terms of the story, there is nothing to write home about, but that doesn't matter so much as there is quite a lot of action, and just when I thought it would be another three-way after 1 hour, there was a 40 minute action finale with intense music and solid fights where finally limbs started to break. The cinematography is clear, the fights don't look machined, the actors obviously know how to do it, so most of the punches, holds and kicks look believable, and the action can be nicely felt. It's a pity that there was no blood, but I'm satisfied. This is the right direction, and after a long time I enjoyed an action flick from Malaysia. (20.03.2021)
