Als Poirot von Hastings dazu überredet wird, ihn auf einen Maskenball zur Feier des Jahrestags des englischen Siegs im Ersten Weltkrieg zu begleiten, ist er zunächst wenig begeistert. Aber wider Erwarten ist an diesem Abend Poirots kriminalistischer Spürsinn gefragt, denn einer der Ballgäste, der schwerreiche Lord Cronshaw, wird kurz nach Mitternacht mit einem Tafelmesser im Rücken ermordet aufgefunden. Am Tag darauf findet man seine Geliebte, die extrovertierte Schauspielerin Coco Courtney, tot in ihrer Wohnung - gestorben an einer Überdosis Kokain. (one - ARD)

Poirot is absolutely perfect at the ball, especially in the way that he is the only one without a costume, even though he says otherwise. He fits in perfectly there like a figurine. The story is connected to the radio broadcasting, which is also where the murderer is eventually revealed. That is absolutely brilliant and adds something extra to the whole detective story.
