I always feel like I have to defend high ratings somehow with these types of films, because you can't simply enjoy it. Again, I felt utterly desperate and disgusted during the viewing and had to pause it more than once. The fact that it left me in tears is probably pretty clear. Whether the ending satisfied me I can't say, but I am hoping for at least something like it for anyone who is or has been hurt. I hope I'll soon forget Seon Yoo's performance, because up until now I've enjoyed watching her quite a bit. Being involved in the filming of something like this must have been terribly difficult mentally, I salute everyone involved in this. (24.10.2021)

My soul has been torn to pieces! South Korea serves up one of the most powerful and important films of the year on the subject of child abuse, that is likely to make parents collapse. My First Client is a powerful story based on true events from 2013, where a 10 year old girl goes to confess to the murder of her little brother. She confides in a failed lawyer working at a children's centre, who finds something wrong with the case. Superb acting by all involved, thick atmosphere, strong emotions (tissues all over the bed a must!) and the final trial takes your breath away, shocks and squeezes your heart. An uncomfortable film on a sensitive topic where the children's mother is literally a walking cold monster. Recommended.
