The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes

Ein richtig guter Holmes – Jeremy Brett sieht zwar wie ein typischer asketischer Stockfisch aus, aber er verhält sich ganz anders. Er ist flink, laut und voller Energie. Dank diesem Kontrast zwischen seinem Äußeren und seinem Charakter kommt er pfiffig rüber. Watson hat bei diesem Fall eher die Rolle eines Beobachters. Aber auch so kann man erahnen, dass die beiden gut vorankommen werden. (18.12.2016)

Ein ausgezeichneter Fall, geheimnisvoll, spannend und vielleicht sogar mit Action. Ich ahne, dass ich bald zu denjenigen gehören werde, die auf Bretts Sherlock nichts kommen lassen. Watson hat zwar wieder nicht viel geschafft, aber auch so hat man gesehen, dass er für Holmes beim Nachdenken sowie beim Zuflüstern von Ratschlägen beim Verhör der Zeuginnen sehr wichtig ist. Die Enthüllung ist diesmal nicht besonders überraschend oder dramatisch. Trotzdem gefällt es mir sehr, dass die Autoren für den Anfang der Serie diese ein wenig vergessenen Fälle (die aber nicht uninteressant sind) ausgewählt haben. Holmes hält vom Anfang bis zum Ende nicht inne (mein Verdacht, dass sich Benedict Cumberbatch am meisten von Bretts Darstellung inspirieren ließ, wird immer stärker), er denkt angestrengt nach und freut sich offensichtlich darüber. Und Watson schaltet sich in jeder Folge mehr ein. (27.12.2016)

The cases that are not exactly about the search for a sinister murderer are in my opinion the ones that make Holmes who he is. They show him as a capable investigator who is admirably dogged in his pursuit of something that intrigues him, and in doing so helps a man in need, and this film episode captures it all perfectly. I am very fond of the impatient Holmes, who first shouts at a man who is unable to say anything useful, only to look at him in silence and ask further questions just by moving his eyebrows. This case is really brilliant, and not only because of that. (29.12.2016)

The atmosphere is priceless, it’s so suspenseful that at times it becomes almost horror. Not that this has prevented Holmes from the obvious enthusiasm with which he sets about his investigation. (30.12.2016)

One of my favorite Holmes cases and the best episode of the first season of the series. The investigation is a little lighter and the Christmassy mood gives it a warm touch of humanity, Jeremy Brett excels and David Burke as Watson is as good as it gets for this pair. (31.12.2016)

I didn’t know this story and it was a very pleasant surprise. A downright horror atmosphere and an excellent beginning for the second season. (15.02.2017)

Ein nächster sehr spannender Fall, die Gegner von Holmes sind diesmal unglaublich schleimig und unberechenbar und die Zuschauer*innen haben wieder das Gefühl, dass es um alles geht. Mycroft habe ich mir nie so alt vorgestellt, das ist aber egal. Die Brüder Holmes haben sich (zusammen mit Watson) schön ergänzt; es gab zwischen ihnen keine Rivalität, wie es in manchen anderen Adaptionen der Fall ist. (16.02.2017)

A great scene with Watson and Holmes in the barbershop, Holmes looking around the crime scene, a suggestive hanging, a sweetly funny punchline in the closing credits. So far, the second season of this series hasn't missed a beat. (19.02.2017)

Holmes solves the case in three pipes, jumping over a sofa with excitement… Jeremy Brett is really amazing, and unlike the source material, he's already getting in Professor Moriarty's way, which is only a good thing. (20.02.2017)

Es ist eine ziemlich undankbare Aufgabe, eine der bekanntesten Geschichten von Holmes so zu drehen, damit sie interessant ist, obwohl das Publikum weiß, was (nicht) passieren wird. Bei diesem Film ist das aber gelungen und das Ergebnis ist sogar ausgezeichnet. Der abgehetzte Jeremy Brett ist in den ersten Minuten des tollen Finales der zweiten Staffel hervorragend. Auch am Ende, wenn Holmes schon weiß, was kommen wird, und wenn er darauf wartet, spielt er großartig. David Burke strengt sich auch an und Moriarty wirkt wirklich teuflisch. (20.02.2017)
