With 37 million inhabitants Tokyo is one of the world’s most populated cities. Its high population density has forced urban planners to develop the city to a height and to optimise existing space. The documentary directed by Damien Faure gives us a surprising look at city life. It does not focus on modern high-rise buildings, colourful supermarkets – often considered a symbol of the city  –  but it makes us feel like the house is deformed by the urban development. The film also mentions architects who are confronted with this architecture. It’s also a lesson about Japanese space, starting with tatami, the use of space between the house and the street, and adaptation to the lack of space in overcrowded Tokyo. The director plays with the film language, the film is a combination of documentary and feature film. (Film a Architektura)
