When the Bull Cried

The tin mines in the Bolivian Andes are a strange place. It is said that the local miners, who balance daily on the edge of life and death, have signed a contract with the devil himself. This documentary follows a poor mining community living high in the Andes. Everyone's lives and fate revolves around tin, which is being exploited in inhumanly difficult conditions. Every year countless miners die in the mines. For young people, working in the mines is no longer an attractive proposition, and they come into conflict with the older generation. Nevertheless, the mountains' underground treasure remains the only source of livelihood for the local population. With their pleas that the tin vein will never be exhausted, they ritually turn to the dark forces and the gods of the underground, bringing them unusual sacrifices. (One World)
