Der legendäre Ausbrecherkönig John Patrick Mason und der brillante Chemiker Stanley Goodspeed sind San Franciscos letzte Hoffnung. General Hummel hat sich mit seinem Terrorkommando auf der berühmt berüchtigten Gefängnisinsel Alcatraz verschanzt. Er fordert 100 Millionen Dollar Lösegeld. Sonst will er die Bevölkerung mit Giftgas ersticken. Die Erstürmung durch die Marines endet in einem Fiasko. Nur Mason und Goodspeed haben es geschafft, auf der Insel zu bleiben. (ORF)
