The film is a depiction of the journey made by Taskinen and Kunnasranta to explore the only five lakes in the world that house a permanent freshwater seal population. Taskinen and Kunnasranta are presumably the only two people that have made this journey to all five lakes. In addition Lake Saimaa in Finland, their explorations, carried out in the space of three years, included trips to Russia, Alaska and Canada. The film explores the differences between these species of freshwater seals. They all eat fish and prey in the same way, but each species is different and has a different story to tell.
