The Son

I'm very happy with both seasons of The Son. If it had been created in the 1950s, the role of Eli McCullough would have probably been played by John Wayne, who would, as the leader of the Texas Rangers, heroically defeat the terrible and vicious Indians for the good of all godly and righteous Americans. Instead of such a disaster, this series shows the situation in a slightly different light, and I was loving it. (20.01.2020)

The first season was a nice surprise. Although the story of Eli McCullough has two separate plotlines, I didn't mind as it was perfectly easy to follow, and the glimpses into the past were interesting and offered some useful insight. After what I have seen so far, I’m definitely looking forward to the next season. (18.09.2019)

The introduction to the series was not bad at all, it featured the classic introduction of the viewer to each character, and even though the story takes place in two significantly distant timelines, it didn't bother me at all because both stories are very clear so far. Originally, I assumed it would be another production from the Wild West era, so the year 1915 was a welcome surprise for me. 3*+ (17.09.2019)

After two episodes, I can cautiously say that I will probably like the series. The story and individual characters gradually gain depth, the time period in which the plot is set suits me perfectly, and I also enjoy the time jumps to the year 1849. Additionally, the creators are not afraid to introduce raw action, so for now, I am satisfied. (17.09.2019)

The pace of the story was slower this time and there were significantly fewer action scenes, but I learned more about the McCullogh family's situation and the tense situation between the United States and Mexico. I realized that I had to remind myself several times per episode that most of the events take place in 1915, Texas is a bit lost in time here :-) 4* (17.09.2019)

I was deeply saddened that even here the creators couldn't resist the recurring black agitation, even though I understand that it is important for a certain percentage of American voters, it still annoys me. However, I really enjoyed the events in both time lines, and moreover, there was a very decent action again. (17.09.2019)

The fifth episode seemed to me to be the best so far, especially when the creators reminded us of the aliens' strongest weapon against the native population. The majority of this episode was taken up by the action of Mexican raiders against the McCullough ranch, and because I really liked how it was executed, I was very satisfied. (17.09.2019)

After the sixth episode, I can say that the sixth episode still maintains a decent standard. Although I enjoyed the present-day plotline (1915) again, this time the events from 1850 won me over. It is certainly because I am not particularly fond of the nation of world democrats and peacemakers, and here they definitely spoke to the point. (18.09.2019)

Okay, so far I have mostly praised the series, but I am somewhat hesitant about the seventh episode. Both plotlines focused too much on romantic affairs, but what surprised me the most was the gay club. In 1915?! In Texas?! Forks and torches could still be threatening there today. 3*- (18.09.2019)

After a somewhat weaker previous episode, another solid episode came. I was satisfied with it mainly because it starts to become intriguing around the oil field, the fact that it is located on foreign land is not a big problem. It is quite interesting that it strongly reminds me of the current foreign policy of the USA. (18.09.2019)

The ninth episode definitely wasn't among the best that the series has brought me so far. Don't get me wrong, the scheming against the Garcia family was of good quality, but it was only a marginal issue here. The majority of the episode was filled with a rather unexciting and somewhat dragged-out plot, which didn't convince me too much. (18.09.2019)

No way! The plot of the final episode of the first season was a pleasant revival after the previous dullness, both storylines had plenty of action, I didn't let myself be spoiled by mysterious interventions through a half-meter wall, I had a great time, and that's why I rated it highly. The second season turned out to be even better than the first one. I was really glad because this is not always the case with the series I watch. The creators picked up where they’d left off two years ago, and I must say they managed to tweak everything to perfection. (20.01.2020)

The inaugural episode of the second season nicely followed the events of the previous series, it just surprised me that we now have a story divided into three time frames, which are further complemented by flashbacks to Pete's adventure beyond the Mexican border. It may seem like the creators have bitten off more than they can chew, but so far they are handling it with grace. (19.01.2020)

Until the very end, the pace of the story in the second episode was quite calm, yet I wasn't bored because the creators managed to include a lot of important information. Moreover, it seems that besides the intrigues in the McCullough family, I could also look forward to some unpleasant politics. (19.01.2020)

The second season still maintains the right course even after the third episode. I can tell that very easily because I haven't been bored for a moment so far. The plot, in the end, again moves only in two timelines, with the year 1985 only entering the story sporadically. (19.01.2020)

The creators of the fourth episode divided the story into two time frames very well. While the Comanches took care of the action in 1851, in 1915 there was active politicking, plotting, and negotiating. Just like in the previous season, I am very satisfied with the development so far. (19.01.2020)

And again, I was satisfied with how the creators nicely play with events that are separated by sixty-four years. In both time planes, they manage to maintain an interesting (and occasionally action-packed) plot that keeps me entertained the whole time, and I definitely would not get bored. (19.01.2020)

Although once again one of the most controversial topics of the present time was discussed, I had no reason to lower my rating. The creators approached the problem a little differently, it was interesting to see how each family member wanted to help Phineas and what their reasons were for it. Moreover, it seems that something bigger is looming ahead... (19.01.2020)

After all the politicking, scheming, and maneuvering, which I found very enjoyable, the creators also made a real action move, and because they took it to the floor, they brought it into both main time planes. I enjoyed it even more than usual, and I couldn't give anything less than a full five. (20.01.2020)
