Mit „The Neighbor", präsentiert uns Marcus Dunstan einen Thriller der Extraklasse, in dem es ein braver Bürger im US-Bundesstaat Mississippi nicht länger ertragen kann, dass sein Nachbar merkwürdige Dinge in seinem Keller zu treiben scheint. Angetrieben von der Neugier, nimmt er das Nebenhaus auf einer kleinen Erkundungstour genau unter die Lupe. The Collection has become a minor cult-classic and Marcus Dunstan probably naively thought that if he cast the same actor and chose a similar plot, he would reap success again, but there is no gore and the film is much poorer visually. What I did like were the bad guys, I immediately thought of Storm Warning, but it's all too cautious and lacking in intensity. I wasn't bored, so I'll give it an average rating, but next time it needs some improvement. 50%

The horror film The Neighbor isn't exactly a great spectacle, but it fits into the current intriguing trend of horror films like Don't Breathe, which focus on the idea that anything could be hiding behind a neighbor's door, and it's definitely not wise to underestimate your surroundings. The film works well as more mainstream torture porn and as revenge and survival. All in all, it's a slightly above-average horror film.
