I don't know how radioactive rays feel, but after Marc Cousin's cooperation with the Scottish post-rock band Mogwai, I want it to be just like their mutual essay film: a warm bath. Granted all the horrific pictures of the effects of nuclear power which crash upon our retinas in Atomic: Living in Dread and Promise that's surely not the point. But the film, which is only made from clips from the archives of the British Film Institute and newly recorded tracks by Mogwai, is seamlessly clipped and so beautiful that I feel relaxed and calm when I should actually be screaming in panic about the images of mutated cells, children injured by radiation, beguiling propaganda and cities ripped apart by white light.
