John Truscott (Hugh Dancy) wird Anfang der 1930er-Jahre nach Malaysia versetzt. Dort lernt er die hübsche Selima (Jessica Alba) kennen, die ihm die Sprache beibringt - und sich schließlich in den Engländer verliebt. Die leidenschaftliche Affäre der beiden stößt jedoch auf wenig Gegenliebe in ihrem Umfeld und setzt Ereignisse in Gang, die die Liebe des jungen Paares auf eine harte Probe stellt. (TNT Film)
