Dr. Geothy Miklós, art historian, sets off with his colleague, Berény Hilda, to the castle of Hollókő to study the last painting of the medieval Italian painter, Bartolo Ricco. Upon their arrival, Miklós attempts to seduce the girl by force. She is rescued by the arriving foreign researchers, using arms. During the night a storm breaks out and the wounded Miklós is tortured by nightmares. In his dreams a medieval story is revived: one of his ancestors suited the daughter of the painter and then stabbed him as he wanted to protect his daughter. The portrait of the murdered painter, signed with his own blood, is revealed. It chases and kills the belated progeny of the murderer, Geothy Miklós. (Verleiher-Text)
