Billions (2016)

Englisch The Big Short meets The Wolf of Wall Street. Unlike the said canine, this series didn’t bore me for a second, and not once did I struggle with microsleep. The cast was excellent, and I was drawn in by the story from the start. Thanks to having seen The Big Short a while back, I was surprisingly familiar with the world of finance, so the mention of shorting couldn’t throw me off. What's more - Metallica. I’m more than satisfied. ()

Season 1 (2016) (S01)

Englisch I am very satisfied with the series after Season 1. The theme is clear: the world of big finance filled with illegal practices, which has become a sore spot for a lot of Americans after the not-so-distant recession. The story is built around a duel between a powerful financial tycoon and the State’s Attorney. The information that gradually floats to the surface affects the often-fanatical behavior of the two protagonists. I have to praise the great cast, atmosphere, writing and soundtrack. Although there were weaker moments here and there, it worked great as a whole and I'm already looking forward to the next season. ()

Strafe muss sein (2016) (S01E01)

Englisch After watching the pilot episode, I pretty much knew for certain. I'm definitely going to like this series about the world of big finance. I was extremely satisfied with the casting and the story's theme, and I am eagerly anticipating intrigues in greater quantity than small. I've always liked matters without traditional positive heroes, and I assume that there won't be many of them here. ()

Namen an der Wand (2016) (S01E02)

Englisch The second episode didn't seem as successful to me, I had a feeling that the pace of the story somewhat decreased, there weren't as strong intrigues as I expected, and the situation in this regard was mainly saved by Mr. Hall and his cunning behind-the-scenes moves. Although Damian Lewis is among my favorite actors, I must admit that Paul Giamatti makes Chuck Rhoades a slightly more interesting character. ()

Wahre Liebe? (2016) (S01E03)

Englisch I really enjoyed the third episode, besides Paul Giamatti's performance, I also have to highlight Malin Akerman, whom I knew only from a few mediocre comedies so far, but she perfectly portrays Lara as a cold bitch, and I like that. The story had a great pace this time and I was completely satisfied. ()

Heavy Metal (2016) (S01E04)

Englisch In the previous comment, I praised the good pace of the story... The plot of the fourth episode didn't have such momentum, although it wasn't uninteresting, but it left me with a stretched-out impression. The creators clearly tried to maintain too many storylines, and then they devoted themselves to each one too superficially, resulting in the whole thing feeling somewhat inconsistent. I must appreciate Metallica, but it is clear that James Hetfield is a great musician, but acting should be left to others. ()

Die Spur nach Iowa (2016) (S01E05)

Englisch Even the fifth episode didn't impress me too much. I enjoyed the plot, the investigation led by the state inspector was progressing, but something was simply missing. I think the story would have benefited from a better pace and something that would give it more juice, visits to S/M clubs probably aren't enough. The first and third parts were fine, so I don't understand where the mistake happened. ()

Grabenkrieg (2016) (S01E06)

Englisch The creators managed to create a special atmosphere full of uncertainty in the sixth episode (for English-speaking viewers - special), which suited the whole agreement dispute very well. Once again, I wasn't bored, I quite enjoyed the tug-of-war, even though it ultimately came down to another version of comparing who has the bigger one. However, this time I had a feeling that something is simply missing. ()

Der Eiertanz (2016) (S01E07)

Englisch I really enjoyed watching the seventh episode, especially the part that I was missing. I don't even know why, maybe it was because of the detours from the world of finance. I liked Lara's effort to provide her sons with a meeting with reality and Bobby's initial outburst of emotions. ()

Die Bombe platzt (2016) (S01E08)

Englisch The eighth episode followed two main plotlines. The first revolves around an informant whom the bureau managed to place in Bobby's company. The second reveals Axelrod's biggest secret. Considering that it is September 11th, I expect to see some serious hysteria, witch hunts, or even lynching in the upcoming episodes. ()

Wo zum Teufel ist Donnie? (2016) (S01E09)

Englisch This time, the creators stuck to two main storylines, causing great concern to both parties involved about the disappearance of Donnie Caan. Meanwhile, the Axelrod family has to face an expected hate campaign. The episode had a quality atmosphere, had a very decent pace, and entertained me. ()

Schach im Herbst (2016) (S01E10)

Englisch A very good episode with a quality atmosphere, things were constantly happening, even though I expected a much more melancholic mood after the "funeral" episode. Fortunately, the creators did not take the usual path but instead filled the episode with an interesting plot and small victories on both sides, so I could have a great time. ()

Das Massaker (2016) (S01E11)

Englisch The eleventh episode came with a slight disappointment, the previous episode has satisfied me a lot, so I was expecting something more. True, there were a few crucial pieces of information and interesting interactions, but the pace of the story significantly slowed down and at times I was a bit bored, which is a shame, but I will hope that it was just a build-up before the conclusion of the first season. ()

Nichts zu verlieren (2016) (S01E12)

Englisch Wow! A five-star rating is back. The end of the first season was very successful for the creators, with a high-quality atmosphere, eventful plot, and, unlike the previous episode, it didn't lack a story or decent pace. This time, I enjoyed both of the main female characters the most, and the financial transfer before the resignation and preparations for escape really amused me. ()

Season 2 (2017) (S02)

Englisch Season 2 had practically the same effect on me as the previous season. Even the weaker episodes were worth at least four stars. I had a great time all along. I really appreciate that there are no truly positive characters in the series. It’s about constant elaborate intrigue and cynicism, which makes me excited for more. ()

Giftiges Geld (2017) (S02E01)

Englisch The first episode of the second season evidently served mainly to remind the viewer of the previous plot and to make them realize what game will be played this time, simply a typical introductory episode that introduces us to the plot and reminds us of the individual characters. The fact is that it was not bad at all. ()

In letzter Minute (2017) (S02E02)

Englisch Yes, last time we got acquainted, so I was expecting it to start. Well, it didn't happen, the plot was interesting, I wasn't bored for a moment, but the pace of the story was a bit slow after all, I was expecting the second episode to be a bit livelier. All that's left is to hope for the next parts. ()

All In (2017) (S02E03)

Englisch On the third try, it worked out, this episode worked for me. I like poker and I don't care if I play it live, in Far Cry, or if I watch it in a movie or TV series. I enjoyed the gearing up before the game, Taylor strongly reminded me of Eleven from Stranger Things, just less likable, but Brian and the flight attendant also scored. ()

Nur ein Raubritter (2017) (S02E04)

Englisch The fourth episode didn't seem very convincing to me. The story had its potential, but the creators decided for some reason not to use it and let the plot flow slowly, the pace went off track and I didn't really get Wendy's subplot. If her storyline was missing in this episode, I probably wouldn't care. ()

Wie das Spiel läuft (2017) (S02E05)

Englisch After a weaker episode, there was improvement again, planning and plotting cheerfully resumed, the atmosphere returned to the story, and Damian Lewis could once again show that he knows how to play those cold-blooded characters. I admit, it wasn't a perfect five-star performance, but after the previous episode, it was a welcome improvement. 5 stars. ()
