Scouts vs. Zombies - Handbuch zur Zombie-Apokalypse

It’s colourful and brisk, it doesn’t need the brain to be turned on, and for every half good joke, there’s one or two pubertally embarrassing ones; the kids will be satisfied. It’s bearable, which is the best I can say about it. But what really got me was the part where, after fighting zombies for one hour, two of the team members get into another loud fight with zombies in the ground floor, and then, when other two members of the team come down from the first floor, they ask what the hell happened. They were dancing, moron. This is the moment that best describes the film. And not, it wasn’t a well timed joke. For me, a weak three or a stronger two, clickable either way. (08.12.2015)

At moments, I felt excitement similar to the one when I watched Shaun of the Dead. But while Shaun of the Dead became my personal zombie cult, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse got stuck somewhere in the middle of a freshly roadkilled zombie. I didn’t mind that it wasn’t a brutal bloodbath, but the movie would sometimes come up with something so vile that it created an impression of a zero consistency and absolute fickleness. I don’t really even know if it was an innovative comedy or a light slasher. It had something from both worlds, but the result didn’t work out. (22.08.2016)

Scouts vs. Zombies - Handbuch zur Zombie-Apokalypse riecht allein schon vom Titel her nach unglaublichem Irrsinn, was dieser Film zweifellos ist. Ein Trio von Pfadfindern, die um Leben und Tod kämpfen, und eine heiße Blondine versuchen, sich durch eine Horde Zombies zu kämpfen, wobei es oft zu wirklich bizarren Zwischenfällen kommt, bei denen Blut fließt, Köpfe abgeschossen werden, Ärsche gelutscht und Penisse abgerissen werden. Letztendlich sind es flott gedrehte neunzig Minuten, in denen die Filmemacher wieder einmal nicht mit krassen Klischeedialogen und -szenen gespart haben, aber verdammt noch mal, ich wurde trotzdem gut unterhalten (und manchmal leicht angewidert). Kurzum, ein Film, der dem Genre Horrorkomödie keine allzu große Schande bereitet und für einen freien Abend geeignet ist, aber wegen einiger Schreckmomente definitiv kein entspannender Film ist. Today, I realized that age has started to affect my enjoyment of certain things, including this movie. Its rewatch didn't quite hold up due to my aversion to children's organizations and the fact that many of the jokes just didn't have the same impact they once did. There were still moments that made me chuckle, like those inventive ways of killing the undead and long-legged beauties wielding twelve-gauge shotguns. Overall, I still had a decent time with the movie, but I couldn't ignore how the creators ventured into humor outside my comfort zone and leaned into clichés and sentimentality. These factors led me to lower my original rating, though going below three stars wouldn't feel fair to me. / Lesson learned: Before the zombie apocalypse hits, it might be helpful to learn the lyrics of some Britney Spears songs. I got what I expected. A pretty good horror comedy, which is spiced up with successful gore that is absolutely great in some scenes. But even better is the scene when one of the scouts is hanging from the window. That scene is unforgettable. A relatively original horror comedy that shows that dealing with zombies is still not so dreadful and that interesting movies can be found. (22.12.2015)
