Along with Jagko, Gilsotteum is Im Kwon-taek's another film depicting the tragedy of separation between South and North Korea, which also solidified middle-aged Shin Seong-il's onscreen persona. While filming the 1983 TV show Finding Dispersed Families, he was already deeply interested in dispersed families. This film shows how the tragedy of war continues to be felt to this day. A couple separated because of the Korean War find their son through the Finding Dispersed Families program. Each already has a family of his own, and the son they find is not who they expect. Now everyone must make a choice. (Busan International Film Festival)
