Die Einwohner eines Dorfes haben es schon seit geraumer Zeit nicht mehr geschafft, ein Baby zur Welt zu bringen. Als dann eines Tages eine alte Frau Mutter wird, halten alle Menschen im Ort dies für ein Wunder – und als die Enkelin behauptet, das Kind sei von ihr und sie sei noch Jungfrau, wird das kleine Baby zu einem echten Wunderkind. Yeah, there are intense scenes that give you chills, but it can also be off-putting. However, with its strangely dark bloody poetics and baroque grandiosity, the film didn't grab me. On the other hand, it has to be admitted that this is a film that you just don't see that often, and as an overall experience, it's unique. Still, Greenaway probably won't draw me in with this film.
