The Newsroom takes a behind-the-scenes look at a high-rated cable-news program at the fictional ACN Network, focusing on the on- and off-camera lives of its acerbic anchor, new executive producer, their newsroom staff and their news-division boss. Overcoming a tumultuous first day together – climaxing in a newsflash that a BP oil rig has just exploded in the Gulf of Mexico – the team sets out on a patriotic if quixotic mission to "do the news well" in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles, and their own personal entanglements. The Newsroom (2012)

Englisch I was hooked from the first episode. What I liked was the perfect fusion of drama and intelligent humor, which was so dry in places that some scenes would have been impossible to film without a fire watch. It was both fun and thought-provoking. The cast was perfect, the individual characters felt extremely real to me, and I would have been completely satisfied if it hadn't been for the second half of the third season, which was rather underwhelming after the fantastic second season. ()

Season 1 (2012) (S01)

Englisch I really enjoyed the first season. The individual characters had depth, and although the series deals with serious issues, its intelligent humor makes it more than just a boring drama. I would have been five-star material if it hadn't been for the awfully melodramatic fifth episode. ()

Gute Nachrichten (2012) (S01E01)

Englisch I have to give some TV series a chance for them to start entertaining me, and it may not happen until the third episode. Newsroom caught me from the beginning, offering a very interesting environment, an entertaining mix of genres, and a high-quality cast. ()

Die Kongresswahl (2012) (S01E03)

Englisch This episode reminded me once again of a well-known truth, when people claim that they want to hear honest and truthful answers, but when they are given both, they realize that lies are much more pleasant and unnecessary for disturbing their lazily flowing lives. ()

Lügen und Geheimnisse (2012) (S01E04)

Englisch The fourth episode brought a perfectly functioning mix of news, politics, interpersonal relationships, weapons, spilled alcohol, drama, humor, and Yetti. I had the impression that the one-hour-long episode felt like it lasted a maximum of twenty minutes. I praise it! ()

Amen (2012) (S01E05)

Englisch I enjoyed the fifth episode and I would definitely rate it with four stars if it weren't for the deadly American ending with enthusiastic applause served with gallons of pathos. This disgust ruined the whole episode for me, but I pulled myself together and didn't allow my disappointment to collapse the rating below 3*. ()

Tyrannen (2012) (S01E06)

Englisch I rate the sixth episode as high-quality and funny, especially enjoyed the Japanese passage which reminded me of Suntory whisky. I also found it interesting how the development of relationships can be maintained at point 0 even after six episodes. ()

Der Informant (2012) (S01E07)

Englisch A fairly sympathetically presented greatest success of the American anti-terrorist campaign. Despite my fears of the worst after the experiences of the fifth episode, the expressions of patriotism were delivered extremely tolerably after the death of the archdevil, and pathos only timidly peeked out from behind the scenes. ()

Die Scheindebatte (2012) (S01E09)

Englisch I enjoy that I can laugh so much while watching a show that also makes me think. Emily Mortimer is getting better and better in the role of MacKenzie, only the (dis)relationship between Jim and Maggie is starting to annoy me a little bit. ()

Season 2 (2013) (S02)

Englisch I liked the second season even better than the first one. The plot seemed more coherent thanks to the investigation into the special report regarding Operation: Genoa. The personal relationships, which were stagnating at the end of the first season, underwent development and began to contribute to the plot. For a drama series, it had a considerable amount of humor, and I had a great time. ()

Unbeabsichtigte Konsequenzen (2013) (S02E04)

Englisch The fourth episode was not bad at all, but once again the topic of African children was used, which doesn't really touch me like others do. Moreover, I find it strange how well neglected orphans can speak English. Some parts of the episode were just a manipulative play on emotions, but I didn't want to take away another star because otherwise, I enjoyed it. ()

Wahlabend (1) (2013) (S02E08)

Englisch The election broadcast had zest, Neal's extracurricular tasks managed to make me laugh, and Charlie's attempt to get fired was only comparable to the effort of some of our people to escape work before it appears in sight. ()

Season 3 (2014) (S03)

Englisch I have mixed feelings about the third season. The first half had everything I was used to – quality drama, intelligent humor, and thought-provoking topics. From the fourth episode on, things seemed to slow down. The theme of journalism was dropped, the main focus shifted to personal relationships, and the story quickly descended into mediocrity. It seemed to me that the final episode was written just to make everything turn out well, to let truth and love triumph over hatred and lies, and to make you nostalgic for the past seasons. It's a shame, the series deserved a better ending, this one seemed kind of fake. ()

Der Whistleblower (2014) (S03E02)

Englisch This time, I slightly lowered my rating because Neal's espionage case didn't really interest me, on the other hand, I was amused by how everyone will have to break a sweat to gather four billion for Leona, that'll be a piece of cake. ()

Missachtung (2014) (S03E04)

Englisch The fourth episode is solely combative, fighting against the system, against the new owner of the station (or at least against his vision), and also fighting for moral values. It just seemed to me that the plot was less interesting than before. ()

Oh Shenandoah (2014) (S03E05)

Englisch The fourth part hinted at a slight deterioration in the quality of the plot, and the fifth episode convinced me of it. Important reports stopped being resolved, instead, prison dialogues came, which did not interest me, and the crown of everything was the revived relationship between Jim and Maggie. ()
