Ex-CIA-Agent Frank Moses wollte mit Freundin Sarah den Ruhestand genießen, doch da holt ihn die Vergangenheit ein: Gemeinsam mit seinem totgeglaubten Kumpel Marvin wird er verdächtigt, bei der Aktion 'Nightshade' beteiligt gewesen zu sein. Langweilig. Eine große und unerwartete Langeweile. John Malkovich war unterhaltsam, Anthony Hopkins war unterhaltsam… Das war aber auch schon alles. Das Interessanteste von Bruce Willis kommt in der Szene, wo das Lager gereinigt wird. Mary-Louise Parker ist die ganze Zeit fürchterlich unerträglich, obwohl sie in R.E.D. - Älter. Härter. Besser. sympathisch gewesen ist. Für Helen Mirren hat das Drehbuch außer der Irrenhaus-Szene nichts Besonderes vorbereitet. Catherine Zeta-Jones wirkt überflüssig, ganz zu schweigen von der koreanischen Figur. Nach der Hälfte des Films habe ich vor Langeweile gegähnt. Die Actionszenen sind einfallslos, der Humor ist sehr seltsam und es handelt sich dabei mehr um Situationskomik. Auch die Musik von Alan Silvestri hat mich diesmal eher enttäuscht. Nach dem unerwartet erfrischenden ersten Film ist ein langweiliger zweiter Teil erschienen, was noch unerwarteter gewesen ist. Ich fürchte, dass noch eine Nummer drei kommen wird, die mich überhaupt nicht interessieren oder unterhalten wird. Es sei denn, dass man Michael Caine zu einer Rolle überredet. Zweieinhalb Sterne.

DC hat es drauf. Das Trio Willis, Malkovich und Parker ist ein Spaß der alten Schule, der nicht enttäuscht. Mirren hat in jeder Situation einen perfekten Drei-Wetter-Taft-Look und Hopkins und Zeta-Jones sind unter allen Umständen amüsant. Aber wir alle wissen, dass das, was im Kreml passiert, immer im Kreml bleibt. Und deshalb auch nur ab ins 4DX-Kino.

"Red 2" is a movie that I expected to have a good time with in the cinema, and that's exactly what I got. An action comedy in the best sense of the word. Yes, the film has its flaws, but that doesn't change the fact that I could laugh from the bottom of my heart in the cinema, and it happened several times. Sometimes, laughter has a much more important meaning for me than the artistry of the film. The plot is good, although nothing exceptional, but this is simply an acting performance that works from beginning to end. And there is already talk of a sequel. And I'm all for it. I rewatched both RED and RED 2 today and the latter didn't stand up to the test of time. The filmmakers (apparently encouraged by a positive reaction to the previous film) added more famous names, wrote a story that lacked any kind of logic and set out to rake in some more money. I was entertained by the first film, but rather bored by the second.

The first one was simple, but also time direct and enjoyable. Red 2 has the same ills as, for instance, the sequel to Ocean’s Eleven: a layered plot that is confusing, crammed with different locations, jarring shifts and cuts, etc. It has no juice and the second time around it's a tired borefest. Not much action either, and the stuntmen are too visible. If it weren't for Helen Mirren in an unusual and unique role, and John Malkovich in full blast, this would be crap seen a hundred times that belongs in the toilet.
