Johnny Worricker (Bill Nighy) ist ein altgedienter Agent des britischen Geheimdienstes MI5. Als sein Chef und bester Freund Benedict Baron (Michael Gambon) völlig unerwartet stirbt, hinterlässt er Johnny brisante Unterlagen, deren Bekanntwerden nicht nur die Geheimdienstorganisation in ihren Grundfesten erschüttern würde. Gleichzeitig lernt Johnny seine Nachbarin Nancy Pierpan (Rachel Weisz) kennen, eine politische Aktivistin. The stylization is interesting, but a thriller with such a slow pace and lacking proper build-up truly requires directorial and scriptwriting courage. David Hare dared to tackle it, and the result is a film with interesting performances that isn't very engaging plot-wise. You probably won't enjoy the conclusion much because there's no real reason to.
