Johnny Worricker (Bill Nighy) ist ein altgedienter Agent des britischen Geheimdienstes MI5. Als sein Chef und bester Freund Benedict Baron (Michael Gambon) völlig unerwartet stirbt, hinterlässt er Johnny brisante Unterlagen, deren Bekanntwerden nicht nur die Geheimdienstorganisation in ihren Grundfesten erschüttern würde. Gleichzeitig lernt Johnny seine Nachbarin Nancy Pierpan (Rachel Weisz) kennen, eine politische Aktivistin. Stylized, it is interesting, but a thriller with such a slow pace, where there is no real progression, requires true directorial and screenwriting courage. David Hare dared to do it and the result is an interesting film from an acting perspective, though not very interesting in terms of plot, and you probably won't really enjoy its outcome, because there isn't much reason to.
