Nie aufhören, nie einen Schritt zurück und immer weiterkämpfen. Diesem Lebensmotto bleibt John Gotti (John Travolta) sein Leben lang treu. Als Paul Castellano, Führungsmitglied der 'Cosa Nostra', 1986 auf offener Straße in Manhattan erschossen wird, rückt Gotti, der den Mord skrupellos selbst beauftragt hat, zum Mafiaboss von New York auf. Während Ehefrau Victoria (Kelly Preston) ihm den Rückhalt in einem scheinbar bürgerlichen Leben gibt, scheint Gotti lange Zeit unantastbar zu sein, weswegen er auch den Spitznamen 'Teflon-Don' erhält, da alle Versuche der Strafverfolgung ihn einzusperren, spurlos an ihm abperlen. Doch allmählich gerät Gottis Imperium ins Wanken und auch sein Sohn John Gotti Jr. (Spencer LoFranco) fasst einen verhängnisvollen Entschluss... (KSM/NEW KSM)

From what I’ve read, this movie was John Travolta’s way of self-expression and an attempt to join the ranks of the best movie godfathers of the last 60 years. I don’t know what he expected. The director is obviously one of the “B-list” talents, as the music alone suggests that this movie will be one huge screw-up. Travolta himself wasn’t that bad but the rest sucked. This movie was only good for telling me that there was another movie made about Gotti in the 1990s which looks much better than this boring abomination.

A lame plot with bland characters, a weak script, and an all-too-routine execution with which Connolly would like to follow the steps of Scorsese et al, even though he's far from having the chops. Only Travolta holds it slightly above water.
