Eine mysteriöse Mordserie, bei der mehrere Frauen getötet wurden, beschäftigt Ermittler Tom Thorne. Seine Aufklärungsarbeit verläuft schleppend, bis plötzlich eine Überlebende auftaucht und schwer verletzt ins Krankenhaus eingeliefert wird. Thorne hofft auf eine Zeugin, doch dann muss er mit Erschrecken feststellen, dass sie am Locked-In-Syndrom leidet: einer Krankheit, bei der ihr wacher Geist in einem vollständig gelähmten Körper steckt. Dann erreicht Ghorne eine grausame Nachricht des Mörders und die Ermittlung wird für ihn zu einer persönlichen Angelegenheit. The BBC has Wallander, Luther and Sherlock, Sky has Thorne. He may be the worst of them, but worse doesn't necessarily mean bad. However, the opening two episodes of this case are perhaps too slow-moving; nothing actually happens in them except for the conclusions, and the final episode is unnecessarily rushed (the perpetrator's final deed in the hospital is a mockery of the viewer) and completely lacks pacing, let alone any direction toward the conclusion.
