Ich frage mich, ob es Stephen Daldry überhaupt nötig hatte, eine so uninteressante Geschichte im Stil von Danny Boyle zu drehen. Wahrscheinlich schon. Was mich aber noch mehr verwundert hat (und was ich erst nach dem Film herausgefunden habe) – das Drehbuch hat Richard Curtis geschrieben. Der Film ist natürlich in jeder Hinsicht professionell gemacht – die Regie, die Kameraführung, die Musik… Am Anfang hat es mich wirklich interessiert, wie sich die Geschichte weiterentwickeln wird. Aber ungefähr seit dem Gefängnisbesuch habe ich immer häufiger den Kopf geschüttelt und konnte meinen Augen nicht trauen, was da vor sich ging. Und der abschließende revolutionäre Aufruf "Wenn das Volk eines Tages auf die Straße geht" hat mir überhaupt nicht gefallen. (28.03.2015)

While the ending isn’t too exceptionally moronic, it still can’t manage to overcome the quality of a scene like "Hi, I'm a hot young single Brazilian girl who just came out to dance in the streets. I see you're rummaging through the trash looking for food. You wanna hang out, ugly black boy?". Anyway, let me see those planet Pupulon photos again... (21.04.2015)

An attractive environment and interesting premise make for a stylish film, which is not a bad thriller you enjoy seeing once, but ends up being quite forgettable. (30.10.2019)

Quite nicely - I believe in terms of the credibility of the record - this film reflects how bad the situation of some people is in one of the largest cities in the world. Brazil is not a great place to live for everyone. Unfortunately, this film sometimes focuses too much on how everyone is poor, which can be off-putting. However, it is nice that it is harsh, action-packed, and still human. (09.03.2015)
