Beach, ocean, sunshine, and the summer of sixteen wash pleasantly onto shore in the 2006 surfing feature Catch a Wave. This lively youth film is based on a bestselling novel written by Toyoda Kazuma when he was only 16 years old as a documentary of his high school summer. Toyoda himself also adapted the novel into the film's screenplay, ensuring that the story stays young and true to spirit. Catch a Wave marks the feature debut of director Takahashi Nobuyuki who did the film editing for classic J-horrors like Ring, The Grudge, Dark Water, and Retribution and co-directed the popular television drama Water Boys. Teen stars Miura Haruma (Koizora, 14 Year Old Mother), Kimura Ryo (Heat Island, Nodame Cantabile), and Hamada Gaku (Ahiru To Kamo No Coin Locker) play three high school boys who find more than they expect in an unforgettable summer of romance, friendship, and surfing.
