Heiligabend in einer kleinen verschlafenen Stadt: Ein heftiger Sturm tobt, die Straßen sind dunkel und menschenleer. Die unheilvolle Ruhe wird von einem geheimnisvollen Mann gestört, der in das lokale Polizeirevier spaziert und aussagt, er habe sechs Menschen getötet. Nach jedem seiner Geständnisse stirbt einer der anwesenden Polizisten wie von Geisterhand, und zwar auf die gleiche grausame Art und Weise, die der Unbekannte zuvor beschrieben hat. Irgendwie hat der Fremde seine Finger im Spiel, doch der sitzt seelenruhig in seiner Zelle. Die Polizisten sind ratlos: Es bleibt nicht viel Zeit, das Ganze aufzuklären, denn der Unbekannte fährt unbeirrt mit seinen Geständnissen fort. (Verleiher-Text)

Not very talented creators trying to make smart and mysterious thriller/horror, that’s the feeling I had watching this film. The effort is appreciated, the atmosphere in the Oblowitz house is surprisingly good, so I don’t regret the ninety minutes I spent in the company of The Traveler, but the film still has a lot of problems. Also, Val Kilmer was supposed to look mysterious and dangerous and not like a baroque angel with a hangover.

The Canadian-American movie The Traveler shows that even with a small budget, a relatively simple idea, and one well-known actor, it is possible to make something that is not as bad as it might initially seem. Val Kilmer delivers exactly what was needed for the role. Not even the extra pounds he put on for the role are to his detriment, and it is engaging to the end.
