Modern Family

With this TV show, time flies for me, Valentine's Day is here again and I was worried if the creators would be able to surpass their performance from the first season. Well, I don't know if they surpassed it, but they definitely managed to match it. Phil and Claire dived into it again without hesitation and it was worth it, as they entertained Jay and Gloria as well, and, as usual, bored me - guess who? // "I know that one day I will grow old with Phil, but it won't happen today." / "She had romance, she had an intellectual, why not try both at the same time in one little brown package?" / "Shut up, I'm the winner." The fifteenth episode didn't start well for me, Lily's birthday promised a longer stay with the Mitchell & Cameron duo, and I simply couldn't be pleased about it. I automatically expected boredom and affected Cameron, and guess what happened? I got exactly what I expected. Thankfully, Robbie and Jay with Gloria did well. 3*+ // "What kind of voice is that?" The series does not currently give positive points to the gay community for me, it's just boring and affected, but that clown really entertained me a lot. The reconstruction of the previous night at the Dunphy's was great, Gloria's voice could shatter glass, and Haley was completely convincing as a waitress. // "Thanks a lot, Dad, Mom's performance got me fired." / "That was the worst sound in the world." Gays were once again discussing the issue of global warming, but when I got through it, I had a great time with the other storylines. Especially Jay got me thrilled with his selection of future housing for two, Glorias reactions were amazing, and Phil showed another great performance as he learned to understand women. // "Just don't spill anything, clear, dummy?" "Relax, half of your classmates were already in it." / "Don't be so sure, when I see how much bacon you eat..." "At least my cholesterol pills won't be bored." / "This is it." "Really? After forty-two episodes, this was probably the sixth one where I enjoyed Mitchell and Cameron's storyline, and as usual, Jay took care of it. The others amused me tremendously as always, Luke was excellent, his hesitation before going to the neighbor was a great detail:-) // "Hi, Haley, is mom home?" "No, she had to take Alex to the oncologist." "Oh my goodness, what happened?" "She needed glasses." "Did you mean an optometrist?" "Whatever." / "What does a guy have to do around here to get something to drink?" "Nobody say anything." (16.02.2019)

Without hesitation, I admit that the fifth star was earned by the nineteenth episode of my adolescent self, which thoroughly enjoyed Phil's promotional event. More and more often, I wish that idiotic political correctness didn't exist, so Mitchell wouldn't have to be gay, and we could have fun with him. Instead, I have to watch affected Cameron and the "problems" that those two constantly solve, while the rest of the family is having a good time. // "My friend Nicol just sent me this photo." "I only see you on Wednesdays and twice a month on weekends." / "I feel the pounding of my heart in my eyes." (17.02.2019)

It wasn't bad at all, but the creators have proven to me more than once that they can be much bolder. Maybe I missed more involvement from Jay and Gloria, maybe the Dunphy's storyline wasn't crazy enough, but I would need something more for a fifth star. "Mum! Didn't you hear me yelling? I was stuck in the garage for about twenty minutes!" "And yet you didn't even bring the rat traps you went for. Thanks." "This is a mistake!" "Why does she keep saying that?" Episodes with various holidays are going very well for the creators, and Mother's Day didn't disappoint me either. I was already touched by the gift giving to Gloria, but the subsequent trip with the kids to nature was even better. Claire was great as usual, and Gloria and Manny really topped it off nicely. The absolute highlight of the fun, however, was Jay's cooking with Phil. I was enjoying myself, except for those two tragedies... // "I'm hungry." "We'll eat what we kill." "Well, I guess we'll be eating our mood then." (17.02.2019)

While the obligatory boring part of the episode was addressed with a rhyme and Lady Gaga concert, Jay was shattering dreams and bringing the dreamer back to reality, while Claire and Phil switched their traditional roles in the family. And that was the favorite passage of the whole episode for me, Claire, who was trying to be funny, was excellent, but this time she was outdone by Phil the slave driver. // "Guys, guess who's going go-karting with you? Me!" "Why? Did we do something wrong?" // "I just want to go to bed next to a man who is generous and kind, and you don't have to be that man at all costs." // "Dad, we haven't had lunch yet." "Just like half of the children in Africa, stop whining and get to work." (17.02.2019)

The creators once again stuck to the wall while writing this episode. There could have been more humor, Jay's attempt at botox couldn't save everything, and the storyline with Mitchell and Cameron looked like it was also influenced by Master Troška. That was a joke, next time people could maybe kick each other in the rear. Alex's speech sealed off all this gloominess at the end. 4* - "Well, Gandhi went on a hunger strike for what he believed in!" "That's because no one wanted to sit with him in the cafeteria." "Jay bought it for us to ride together, but I kick myself in the chest with my knees while pedaling." "She's got issues, doesn't she?" (17.02.2019)

I had to give it a five because once again it was confirmed to me that Mitchell could entertain me more often, all he needs is to not have that ball at his feet. But beware, this time I laughed with Cameron too (!), his phone call to Manny was worth it. Jay's birthday wasn't as amazing as the one in Hawaii, but I had something to enjoy. // "Yeah, I wrongly accused her. You're some smart one. You know who used to do your job? A hose." / "I was the king of the world." "Now you're the idiot of the evening." (17.02.2019)

The third season was a disappointment. Many episodes lacked the original lightness, and the writing was often cumbersome. The high quality humor of both the previous seasons was often missing, and only a few episodes in the last quarter convinced me to continue watching. (21.02.2019)

The start of the third season wasn't particularly stellar, but I still had a great time. This series has one big advantage, even though sometimes circumstances force me to give it a lower rating, I still enjoy it a lot. So far, I haven't had an episode that didn't make me laugh. // "I did a little research and we live exactly 3932 kilometers apart." "Yeah, but on some maps, it's this close." "You're such an idiot." Okay, when I managed to squeeze out another amazing decision from my favorite gays, the second episode was great. Claire was solving something that had a huge significance for her, and she went all in, otherwise it wouldn't be her. Manny was also pleased as he started a chain of events with a medallion that could have easily ended in a Colombian necktie. "Could you giggle a little quieter? Can't you see that I'm working on something here?" "Are you dying alone?" / "What was he thinking? It's not even real gold." (18.02.2019)

The third episode of the third season almost convinced me to give it three stars. Fortunately, Jay, Gloria, Manny, and Stella saved the situation, because even Phil didn't convince me with his new challenge, and I'd rather not comment on the juice diet. However, I haven't lost hope and I look forward to the upcoming episodes. 4*- // "Put it down!" "But..." "Shut up!" "I'm sorry you saw that." (18.02.2019)

I was impressed by how honest Manny cleverly outsmarted the experienced fox Jay, and I was also interested in Jay's relationship with Stella. Furthermore, I was touched by Phil's dedication in his efforts to achieve high viewership on YouTube. // "How many moms does it take to change a lightbulb?" "I don't know." The result this time corresponded to such classical four pieces, but I had to add an extra half star for Phil's effort to replace Claire in the household. He managed to eliminate Alex from the activity with absolute ease. I also enjoyed the candidacy for the city council and the punitive expedition. 4*+ // "What's good about this story?" "She stood up to fear and it didn't kill her. ...But two weeks later, she got hit by a bus." (18.02.2019)

I had a great time in the sixth episode, but the creators have already shown me that they can do even better, so I didn't want to exaggerate with my rating. Furthermore, a considerable part of this episode belonged to Mitchell and Cameron, which I consider as a mistake because this duo still doesn't manage to make me laugh (at least not often). // "It's about human suffering. The seventh episode was dance-artsy and made me laugh a lot, so I didn't hesitate with the rating. Phil's carpentry skills were entertaining on their own, but his introduction to the "new" neighbor was great. It also got to me how Jay managed to kickstart placebo and I was pleased with Shorty's return. // "Mom! Just tell me! ... Helping neighbors in need is certainly a beneficial and right thing, but what mainly caught my attention was the discussion of relationships in Jay's extended family. Mitchell and Cameron separated from each other, other family members were added to them, and all of a sudden, they were able to entertain me as well. From beginning to end, I had something to laugh about. // "In my country, it brings a lot, a lot of bad luck when your house burns down." / "That's quite unsettling, considering we're the same age."
