An der Suzuran Boys High School gibt es offensichtlich nie Unterricht, hier geht es nur darum, wer der Herrscher über Suzuran ist. Der so brutale wie gerissene Tamao Serizawa (Takayuki Yamada), Gang-Leader und Herrscher über Suzuran, wird von allen gefürchtet - bis ihn eines Tages ein neuer Schüler herausfordert. Was Serizawa nicht weiß: Sein neuer Gegner Genji (Shun Oguri) ist der Sohn eines Yakuza-Bosses - und um Vaters Erbe antreten zu können, muss er diese härteste aller High Schools Japans erobern. Dass er das mit allen Mitteln versucht, ist so unabdingbar wie, dass aus einer läppischen Schulhofprügelei ein wilder, wahnsinniger Krieg entbrennt... (Verleiher-Text)

Wow. I finally saw Shun throwing some emotions :-) 100% gotta watch the second one because this one was a blast. Battles, battles, battles, blood, blood, rain, friendship, devotion, justice... God, that was great! Eyes bulging out of my head, heart pounding, well, I was on fire :-D Just a good movie, where sometimes the camera annoyed me because I couldn't really see all the blows of whoever got hit...

Ah, Takashi Miike again. He has a knack for filming some cool scenes that nobody would be ashamed of. His final duel is pumped up, both in stylization and thanks to the actors, and ultimately due to everything else - the pacing, which isn't so rushed, the meticulously crafted angles, and the exhilarating music. I feel like I haven't used the word "exhilarating" yet, so I hope this is the only occasion when I've done so.
