The divorced, young man struggling with financial difficulties becomes the eye witness of a post-office robbery by accident. Whats more, instead of the disturbed robber it is him who gets the money. While fleeing, unintentionally he wounds an elderly woman deadly without even knowing it. His girlfriend refuses the money, they are parted. Though his daughter has been raised by the wife, now she puts her under his care The man therefore hides with his daughter. They are chased. First they find a rest in an abandoned house, later at the nearby parochy. From here, the man flees on alone, leaving his daughter behind. He is shot at in the wood, and when he awakes from his feverish dream, he cuts off his mangled foot with an axe. (Verleiher-Text)
