Die griechischen Musen entsteigen einem Wandgemälde, um die Sterblichen zu inspirieren. Als Kira Olivia Newton-John bringt eine von ihnen den Künstler Sonny Malone Michael Beck dazu, eine Rollschuh-disco zu eröffnen. Er erhält dazu Hilfe von dem schon älteren Danny McGuire Gene Kelly, der ebenfalls ein Auserwählter der Musen gewesen ist, was jedoch vor vierzig Jahren war. One star is for the charms and vocals of Olivia Newton-John and the other is for the music of the band ELO, the rest can be classified as garbage. Today, Xanadu is rightfully a forgotten musical piece, from which only the generally known central melody remains, which almost nobody can associate with the film. However, those who grew up on the variety programs of Czech television during the socialist era can at least appreciate the sets and dance choreography of a few songs... Overall impression 30%.

I used to really like this movie. But I only remembered one thing from it - the song with the title. I was quite curious to see how the movie would hold up after all these years, especially since the reviews are generally so bad. I simply love Olivia, no one can change that, but Gene Kelly steals the show here. And yes, the film ended up being a waiting game for each song, with the titular "Xanadu" still remaining great for me. However, the ending is beautifully reminiscent of the style of the 70s and 80s.

Especially the theme song is worth mentioning. Not because it's so amazing, it's just notoriously famous. Otherwise, the musical Xanadu seems to me to be a kind of nostalgic memory of Gene Kelly with a lot of hard-to-digest filler around it. (35%)
