In den 20er Jahren, als in Hollywood gerade der Umbruch von Stumm- zum Tonfilm stattfindet, ziehen Don Lockwood und Cosmo Brown nach Hollywood um hier Karriere zu machen. Zusammen mit der Schauspielerin Lina Lamont haben sie zunächst auch Erfolge, doch sie ist wegen ihrer Stimme für einen Tonfilm nicht geeignet.
