Life (2007)

Englisch While the first season brought me the expected humor and relaxed fun, the second one was clearly weaker, unbalanced and sometimes even boring. I'm actually glad there won’t be a third season. I would worry about another drop in quality. Anyway, I will miss detective Crews and his fruit because he really made me laugh. ()

Season 1 (2007) (S01)

Englisch So far a well-made, undemanding, relaxed series. It doesn’t make your brain go into overdrive with unnecessary complexities, despite dealing with various lifeless states, philosophical issues, consumption of a considerable amount of fruit, and coping with one’s past. The series kept a brisk pace all along, offered high-quality humor, and even served Christina Hendricks in small portions. I was satisfied and had a good time. ()

Dienstbeginn (2007) (S01E01)

Englisch Finishing up the second season of Altered Carbon left me feeling pretty down today. But then I decided to dive into the pilot episode of Life, and boy, did it turn my day around! Sure, it's not without its flaws, but I really enjoyed it and I'm eagerly anticipating what's next in store. ()

Die tote Braut (2007) (S01E02)

Englisch I'm feeling pretty optimistic about where this series is headed. It's doing a solid job of keeping me entertained. Yet, I can't shake this nagging worry that the whole "one case per episode" thing might wear thin eventually. There's potential for some intriguing connections between episodes, especially with Crews' private investigation, but it feels like they're not giving it enough room to breathe just yet. On the bright side, seeing Christina Hendricks pop up was a pleasant surprise. ()

Alleingang (2007) (S01E03)

Englisch The ex-convict, Zen Buddhist, and detective rolled into one continues to intrigue and entertain me. The dialogue remains sharp, and I found myself captivated by the unexpected (almost)parkour of the heavyweight Samoan character. Overall, it was a solid watch. ()

Szenen einer Ehe (2007) (S01E04)

Englisch The show is working for me so far. Crews' lines and demeanor really make the show enjoyable, and the chemistry with his suffering partner adds another layer. The cases themselves keep things entertaining. Overall, the first four episodes have kept me consistently satisfied. ()

Gefallener Engel (2007) (S01E05)

Englisch Despite four murders being investigated, the first time I've started to notice some tension building up is now in the fifth episode. Not that I need to rack my brain trying to figure things out, but it offers a different dimension to the story. ()

Ausgeliefert (2007) (S01E06)

Englisch This episode took a break from murder investigations, but unfortunately, it felt like the plot stumbled a bit. The hunt for the sexual predator felt oddly executed and unconvincing. Thankfully, the humor in this episode saved the day for me, so I'm only docking half a point. 4*- ()

Falsche Fährte (2007) (S01E07)

Englisch This time around, I found much more to enjoy. The storyline had me hooked, and the addition of Sarah Clarke was a pleasant surprise. Plus, seeing Christina Hendricks back in action, with the sunlight catching her hair just right, added an extra layer of charm to the episode. ()

Der halbierte Mann (2007) (S01E08)

Englisch Half a corpse, two widows, three identities - now that's a setup bound to grab your attention! The episode delivered the best story yet. I had a blast untangling the bizarre case, with humor generously sprinkled throughout. Even the bonus subplot with the dead detective hit the mark. 4*+ ()

Die geraubte Stimme (2007) (S01E09)

Englisch No letdown here! The creators upheld their standard, delivering a story that kept me engaged with Crews' trademark humor intact. I appreciated how the writers seamlessly integrated earlier events, ensuring continuity and preventing the orange grove from fading into obscurity. ()

Vergraben (2007) (S01E10)

Englisch This episode felt reminiscent of Cold Case. Even though Zen master Chang had minimal dialogue, his presence was pivotal and expertly portrayed. I was impressed by how the creators seamlessly blended in quality humor, ensuring there was never a dull moment. ()

Alte Rechnungen (2007) (S01E11)

Englisch I bumped up my rating to five stars because it felt like the creators really went the extra mile. Despite the murder investigation theme, this series always brings me a sense of comfort. This time it was different — in a good way. Still, amidst the serious stuff, there was room for fruit and comedic moments that I've come to appreciate. ()

Season 2 (2008) (S02)

Englisch Unlike the first season, which I spoke highly of in my review, the second season disappointed me by how unbalanced the episodes were. Some of the episodes bored me, some were entertaining like in the first season. What really annoyed me was that the creators gradually scaled back the humor and Dani Reese, and their attempts at drama did not impress me much. ()

10 Kisten (2008) (S02E01)

Englisch The season opener left me underwhelmed. While I get that the creators aimed for a more comedic tone, it didn't quite hit the mark for me. Crews' witty lines were the highlight, but I struggled to warm up to his new superior. And let's talk about the logistics of getting those people into the trunks without making a lot of noise. Overall, not the strongest episode. 3*- ()

Mordsbande (2008) (S02E02)

Englisch The core essence of the show remains intact — it's still a relaxing watch that I can appreciate. However, I've noticed a decline in the original high-quality, lighthearted humor that initially drew me in. It seems to have been overshadowed by a different style of humor, which doesn't quite hit the mark for me. Additionally, I'm not a fan of the new commander's behavior. The investigation in this episode didn't leave much of an impression on me either; we've seen similar storylines involving rich guys before, so it didn't offer anything particularly original. ()

Eiskalt (2008) (S02E03)

Englisch I fear the creators have settled into a new, less compelling standard, particularly compared to the first season. None of the three cases investigated in this season really grabbed my attention. However, I've added half a star this time around because Detective Crews and his hallucinations kept me entertained. 3*+ ()

Das Experiment (2008) (S02E04)

Englisch Okay, I'm officially disappointed with where the second season is heading. In the first season, I loved the witty detective Crews and the cases he tackled. However, the quality seems to be declining into mediocrity. The highlight of the fourth episode for me was when the roommates uncovered a threat in the wiretap. Frankly, I found it pretty obvious right from the start. I'm starting to feel that there is such a thing as too much fruit... 3*- ()

Abgewrackt (2008) (S02E05)

Englisch The episode simply fell flat for me. I look to this series for some laid-back enjoyment, but unfortunately, that didn't happen this time. ()

Erdbeben (2008) (S02E06)

Englisch The creators seemed to have reignited the dwindling spark and kindled a flicker of excitement. What's more, I even enjoyed Captain Tidwell this time. Some much-needed humor was added to the mix, and Christina Hendricks handled the pencil very well. It's just a shame about the occasional lapses in logic in the dramatic part of the plot; nonetheless, it was a pretty enjoyable ride overall. 4*- ()
