Schwestern des Bösen

Margot Kidder (Black Christmas, Superman) in ihrer ersten großen Rolle, und man muss sagen, dass sie es verdammtecht genießt. Die Verwandlungen von der lächelnden Danielle zur tobenden Dominique sind großartig und besonders die erste Hälfte des Films hat dank ihr den richtigen Jekyll-Hyde-Charakter. Technisch gesehen ist es ansonsten ein typischer "De Palma-Film", also sind deutliche Hinweise auf Hitchcock oder sogar Cronenberg vorhanden, aber natürlich fehlt es nicht an markanter Musik und einigen Tricks wie geteilten Bildern. Der Mittelteil ist ein bisschen schwächer, aber das Ende, obwohl leicht vorhersehbar, eskaliert schön in den letzten fünfzehn verrückten Minuten. (12.08.2013)

"The Sisters" are a great example of Brian De Palma's ability to establish himself in horror, which he also demonstrated with the film "Carrie". His script is not perfect, and if you have already seen something similar, I think you can easily see through it, but it is still well-structured. Overall, it is a very well-executed work that has paid off. Even after years, the film has not lost much of its atmosphere. (24.07.2016)

Top of the line among twisted and bizarre films. Even if this early De Palma thriller is far from being full of all the formal trappings that characterize his later work, you can already notice some hints that he will perfect in his later films. I am hardly familiar with Hitchcock's work so far, so I have nothing to compare to or criticize. It reminded me a bit of Cronenberg in terms of observing human nature and various unnatural aspects, though of course De Palma doesn't go to such extremes as that Canadian pervert. A decently plotted, acted, formally original thriller bordering on horror (though really only in some passages), which will probably please De Palma's fans and viewers who adore unusual and slightly offbeat work. I liked it, and if you please, I'm not a weirdo. :) (24.10.2011)
